Susan R. Lis

Susan Rene Lis, 61, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, November 16th, after a long and courageous battle with ovarian cancer. She is lovingly survived by her devoted husband, Carl Lis, her mother, Carol Balzer, her daughter Katelyn (Salmon) and son-in-law Brian, her son Jimmy Skrzeczkowski and daughter-in-law Holly, and her cherished grandson Logan, who brought her endless joy.

Susie dedicated her life to caring for others. A passionate and compassionate nurse, she touched countless lives with her kindness, strength, and generosity. She was also a gifted writer and a heartfelt activist who worked tirelessly for the people and causes she believed in. Above all, she was deeply committed to her family and community.

Susie found joy in life’s simple and spirited moments—attending Jimmy Buffett and Barry Manilow concerts, escaping to tropical vacations, cheering on the Dunkirk Marauders baseball team and rescuing and caring for beagles, whom she adored. Her love for animals was a beautiful reflection of her gentle and giving heart.

Her faith guided her throughout her life. She believed in God and was a devoted Catholic, carrying her faith with grace and quiet strength.

Susie will be remembered for her warmth, humor, compassion, and the love she shared so freely. Her spirit lives on in the many lives she touched.

Relatives and friends are welcome to attend Calling Hours on Wednesday, November 19, 2025 from 4-7 p.m. at McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home; 736 Central Avenue, Dunkirk, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, November 20, 2025 at 10 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Roman Catholic Church; 328 Washington Avenue, Dunkirk, NY. Interment will be held in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made in Susie's memory to St. Jude or the Lake Shore Humane Society.
