Ruperto Rosario Cruz, 88, of Dunkirk, passed away Friday evening, August 21, 2026 at the Chautauqua Nursing and Rehab Center in Dunkirk.
He was born in Cidra, Puerto Rico, on July 12, 1938, and came to the United States at a young age, where he would go on to build a life centered around hard work, faith, family and friendship. He was employed at Redwing before beginning his career with Paco’s Construction. Ruperto dedicated 38 years to Pacos Construction before retiring.A devout Catholic, Ruperto’s faith was an important part of his life as he faithfully attended Mass.
Ruperto had a genuine love for the outdoors. He enjoyed spending time in nature and especially looked forward to hunting. He loved bowling and was an excellent bowler. Ruperto was a fan of the Buffalo Bills and the New York Yankees.
Those who knew Ruperto will remember him as a friendly, generous and good-natured man who was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. He had a wonderful sense of humor, was always ready with a joke. Above all, Ruperto treasured the time he spent with his family and friends.
Survivors include his children Robert (Migdalia) Rosario Cruz, and Richard (Gisela) Rosario Cruz, Miriam Rosario Cruz and Enid Rosario; grandchildren Keishla, Richard, Christopher; great-granddaughter Raimar; and siblings Aida, Artemio, Miguel, Felix, Aida Luz, and Renaldo Rosario. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Preceding Ruperto in death includes his parents Lazaro Rosario and Sara Cruz; siblings Ramonita, Antonio, Mose, Jose, Rosalia, Manuel, Luis, Laura and Francisca Rosario.
Relatives and friends are welcome to attend Calling Hours on Monday, August 31, 2026 from 6-8 at the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home; 736 Central Avenue, Dunkirk, NY. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 1, 2026 from 10-11 a.m. with prayer services beginning at 11 a.m. at McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home. Interment will be held in St. Mary's Cemetery.
