Leonard “Len” William Tiedemann, beloved husband, father, and
grandfather, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2025, at home in
Ripton, Vermont, at the age of 91. Len was born on July 19, 1933, in
Dunkirk, New York, and lived a life distinguished by service,
dedication, and a deep love for his family.
A proud Navy veteran, Len served his country with honor before
pursuing a successful career in engineering. He graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in
Mechanical Engineering from Tri-State College (now Trine University) in 1959, where he
developed the work ethic, skills, and intellectual curiosity that would shape his personal and
professional life. Throughout his career, Len worked tirelessly, always focusing on precision and
quality, resulting in significant contributions to products supporting a wide range of space and
defense programs while working at Wright Components in Clifton Springs, NY.
Len married his childhood sweetheart and the love of his life, Margaret Anne Bradley, in 1955,
and the two shared nearly 50 years of marriage. Together, they built a strong, loving family and
were devoted to raising their four sons. Beyond their family, they provided a home and
mentoring relationship for those in need. Len’s legacy continues to inspire his family through the
invaluable lessons of hard work, integrity, and loyalty he imparted to them throughout his life.
Len was a quiet, steadfast presence in the lives of those who knew him. He was active in
competitive sailing nationally and internationally, with a measure of success, while also enjoying
sailing for pleasure. Len was an avid woodworker, contributing to the Middlebury Congregational
Church craft fairs, an extraordinary pie baker, and a dedicated mountain gardener. Len was a
master carpenter who always had a project. His creativity, problem-solving skills, and
confidence led to several renovations and construction projects during his lifetime, and these
skills have been given to the generations to follow. Len’s lovely home was a regular gathering
place for his family and friends, which was his greatest joy.
Len was predeceased by his wife, Margaret, and his brother Arthur. He is survived by his four
sons, Thomas (Catherine), Douglas (Margaret), Gregory (Rhonda), and Andrew, nine
grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, his brothers (David, Robert) and sister (Eileen).
Len is remembered for his unwavering love for his family, service to his
country, and contributions to his church and community.
May he rest in peace, forever loved and cherished in the hearts of all
who knew him.
Graveside prayer services and Military Honors will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025 at NOON at Glenwood Cemetery in Silver Creek, NY.
