Dunkirk

Gayle (Cooley) Hayes, 65, of Dunkirk, passed away unexpectedly at home June 5, 2024.
Daughter of the late Beverly Sweatman and the late Edward and Cecelia Cooley, Gayle was a member of the Dunkirk High School class of 1977. She continued her education after high school and graduated summa cum laude from SUNY Fredonia. She then received her master’s degree in social work from the University of Louisville and also obtained her LCSW. Gayle loved helping people and cherished her work over the years with organizations such as Hospice, ACT, and Harmonia Collaborative Care.

She enjoyed reading, being a life long learner, and attending shows at Shea’s, where she was a long time season ticket holder. Some of Gayle’s favorite memories were made with her daughter and twin granddaughters, whether it was traveling, going out to eat, or just staying in and watching movies together.

Gayle is survived by her daughter Fallon and granddaughters Avèya Cecelia and Nadiya Rose, all of Dunkirk. She will also be missed by her siblings Rick and Bonnie, as well as several half siblings.

In honor of Gayle, the family asks that you read your favorite book or donate to your local library in her memory.

Family and friends are invited to attend services on Saturday, June 15, 2024 at McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home. Calling hours will be from 10am-12pm, with a memorial service beginning at noon. Interment in private.
