Elizabeth A. (Murtaugh) Ensalaco, (Beth), of 4535 West Main Road,
Fredonia, N.Y., passed away on August 21, 2024, after a seventeen-year,
valiant battle with Parkinson’s disease and a recent onset of Dementia.
Beth was born September 26, 1944, at Brooks Memorial Hospital to Harry
and Thurza (Wallen) Murtaugh (both deceased). She was also predeceased
by a sister Lynn Marie Murtaugh.
Beth was the beloved wife of Leonard B. Ensalaco Sr., loving mother of
Leonard B. Jr. (Lisa Ballaro) Ensalaco, Lisa Marie (Larry) Ludemann
(deceased) and Michael J. (Lisa Larmondra) Ensalaco and cherished
grandmother of Meghann Hagaman (Austin), Christa Ensalaco, Mikaela
Ensalaco, Mary Grace Ensalaco, Olivia Ensalaco, Molly Martin (Andrew),
Michael Ensalaco Jr., and Katherine Ensalaco.
Beth graduated from Cardinal Mindszenty High School, class of 1962, and
attended State University of New York at Fredonia. She served as
Treatment Coordinator for Drs. Gugino & Strychalski, DDS for over twenty-
five years and was personal assistant to Dr. Irene D. Strychalski while she
was President of the Northeast Society of Orthodontists.
Beth was a certified Emergency Medical Technician in New York State and
became the very first female Volunteer Firefighter in Dunkirk, New York
when she joined the Daniel F. Anson Volunteer Fire Company as well as the
Dunkirk Emergency Squad. Beth was also an officer and member of the
Dunkirk Professional Firefighter (Local 616) Auxiliary.
Beth enjoyed planning high-school class reunions and keeping in
touch with fellow alumni. She was also an active member of the Antique
Automobile Club of America, Chautauqua Lake Region, for many years. Her
work as Editor of the club’s publication, “Running Board Rundown”, helped
the Chautauqua Lake Region win the National Award of Excellence for
several years.
A ceremony celebrating Beth’s life will be held on September 9, 2024 from 3-6 p.m. at
McGraw – Kowal Funeral Home, 736 Central Avenue, Dunkirk, N.Y.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made directly to Chautauqua Hospice
and Palliative Care, 20 West Fairmount Avenue, Lakewood, N.Y. 14750 or
can be given to a family member. The family will be purchasing something
for Chautauqua Hospice in Beth’s honor.
